Military Medal 'During the attack on the Messines Ridge on June 7th 1917. He was one of the Battalion Runners who alone were left to keep up communication after the first
two hours fighting. He never flinched from any task he was asked to carry out. He showed the greatest bravery in carrying messages under constant shell fire and several times through heavy barrages. He remained cheerful and continued his duty though utterly fatigued and footsore.'
