Military Medal 'East of Ypres on the 4th October 1917 this soldier displayed the utmost bravery and splendid leadership and he organised an attack on several strongly held shell hole positions, and lead his party with remarkable courage and decision. His promptness fine courage and good leadership undoubtedly saved very considerable loss to his Company. He subsequently did excellent work as a runner, carrying messages through heavy shell fire, and as a volunteer stretcher bearer
carrying wounded from the forward position to the rear under heavy fire with great bravery and extraordinary devotion to duty were a magnificent example to others.'
