Source: London Gazette Date: Distinguished Service Order 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When a gun pit was set on fire, causing an explosion which killed one man, he set to work personally to localize
the fire. As men arrived he organised them into a fire party, and eventually succeeded in extinguishing the fire, thereby saving the other gun and ammunition
and probable loss of life.'
