Military Cross 'For consistent gallantry and devotion to duty. This Officer has commanded a platoon since February 1917. He has taken part in all operations with his Battalion and has lead his platoon with conspicuous success, on every occasion. During the
period of trench warfare he has displayed consistent skill and courage in charge of wiring parties and linesmen and has over a long period displayed all the qualities essential to a good platoon leader. Near Messines on the 9th June 1917 at a moments notice he took command of a Company whose officers had all become causalities, and reorganised it and pulled it together during a critical phase of the operations. He has consistently rendered valuable services throughout.'

This officer displayed conspicuous gallantry on the night of the 16th June 1916, in a raid on the enemy's trenches when after his two senior officers had been dangerously wounded, and though wounded himself, he still continued to lead the assaulting parties into the enemy trenches, and brought them out without losing a single man: he himself being the last to leave the enemy?s trenches and the last to enter our own lines.'
