Embarked Alexandria, 26 July 1916; disembarked Southampton, England, 7 August 1916, and marched into Sling Camp. Proceeded overseas to France, 20 August 1916; joined 1st Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 28 September 1916, and posted to C Company. Admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 7 January 1917 (scabies); transferred to Northumbrian Casualty Clearing Station, 19 January 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 29 January 1917. Wounded in action, 7 May 1917 (gun shot wound, right thigh, abrasions and contusions), and admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance; transferred to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance, 14 May 1917; discharged to duty, 18 May 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 19 June 1917.
