Proceeded overseas to France, 5 September 1917. Reverted to Private at own request, 20 September 1917. Joined 2nd Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, and posted to 10th Company, 2 November 1917. Admitted to 3rd NZ Field Ambulance, 18 April 1918 (scabies); discharged to and rejoined unit, in the field, 4 May 1918. Admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 27 June 1918 (ulcer, forehead and buttock), and transferred to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station; to 10th General Hospital, Rouen, 30 June 1918; to 74th General Hospital, Trouville, 3 July 1918; to No 4 Convalescent Depot, Havre, 5 July 1918; discharged to Base Depot, Etaples, 11 July 1918; joined NZ Entrenching Bn, 22 July 1918.
