Military Medal 'On 25th September 1916, when the battalion captured Goose Alley, the telephone wire which Pte Webley was unrolling gave out. The Corporal in charge of the party was shot and Pte Webley returned to Battalion Headquarters for more wire under very heavy enemy fire and in the open. He returned in the open and through a particularly heavy barrage and brought the wire into the captured trench. The wire was then found to be broken, so Pte Webley took some German wire, went over the parapet 150 yds, and repaired it, again under heavy fire, thus establishing communication between the newly taken position, and Battalion Headquarters.'
This finished, Pte Webley was so exhausted that he had to be helped in. I know
that this man has shown gallantry in Armentieres.
