Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous bravery on the night of 6th/7th August, 1915, at Chailak Dere (Dardanelles), when he assisted in the demolition of wire entanglements under very severe fire. Although wounded himself he refused help, and went out to rescue an officer who was wounded, and whom he safely assisted into cover. His bravery and devotion to duty were most marked.'
