Source: London Gazette Date: Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on the night of the 4th-5th October, 1918, at Rues des Vignes, in charge of a party detailed to launch a raft for the crossing of the St. Quentin Canal. He carried the material some 2,000 yards through heavy shell and machine-gun fire, and constructed the raft, enabling the infantry to cross at dawn.'
