Previously tried to enlist in the Royal New Zealand Artillery; rejected after medical examination, 10 June 1913, 'on account of his being a mouth breather, and having bad teeth. The lad has since gone to much trouble and expense to have these defects put right, and I believe he is now suitable for enlisting.'
