Medals |
Military Medal 'Operations Gravenstafel: 1st October to 5th October 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 3rd October 1917, in the Sector east of Ypres, this Battalion was holding the Front line preparatory to the attack of the 4th October and Sergeant Vincent was in command of a Platoon in the front line of shell holes. The enemy in the morning placed a barrage on his position, and Sergeant Vincent, anticipating an attack, at once got his men clear of the barrage
and skillfully placed them in a position to meet the expected attack. To do this he had to pass from shell hole to shell hole through the barrage, and handled his men in such a manner that he got them forward of the barrage with very small
casualties, and by his personal example of coolness and bravery, maintained their spirits so that they were quite ready to meet the attack had it developed. This Non Commissioned Officer has repeatedly shown the greatest coolness in action
and the example he sets his men is always of the highest.'
