Wounded in action, 24 February 1917; admitted to Northern Midlands Casualty Clearing Station, 26 February 1917; transferred to No 10 Ambulance Train, 26 March 1917; to No 8 Stationary Hospital, 26 March 1917; No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on Thames, 28 March 1917 (gunshot wounds, face and legs); transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 28 May 1917. Marched out NZ Convalescent Home, Hornchurch, 9 June 1917, to leave; marched in NZ Engineers Reserve Depot, Christchurc,h after completion of leave, 25 June 1917. Appointed Temporary Lance Corporal while specially employed, 13 June 1918. Detached On Command to Headquarters Squadron, 5 August 1918.
