'Action in front of Belle Vue Spur, West of Passchendaele, 12th October 1917 and following days. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 12th October 1917 in the Battle in front of Belle Vue this non commissioned officer showed great determination in reorganising his Company and pushing home the attack when most of his Officers and senior NCOs had become casualties. He led the final assault, supervised the "digging in" and the consolidation of the positions captured. His total disregard for his personal safety was a fine example to his men.'
