Meritorious Service Medal 'For gallantry and consistent and conspicuous devotion to duty in the field during the period 25th February to 16/17th September 1918. This NCO has been transport Sergeant throughout the above period, and has rendered invaluable services to his Battalion in this capacity. He has displayed fine powers of organisation and a splendid control of his men. In the work of getting up rations to the line often under extremely difficult conditions and heavy fire, he has worked hard and conscientiously, never sparing himself, or his men when the interests of the Battalion necessitated it. He has shown himself to be personally brave as well as capable in the management of his transport personnel and tasks, and has always performed his duties with energy and enthusiasm.'
