Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations east of Bapaume on 3rd September, 1918. In command of the vanguard, he published forward towards the Bettincourt Ridge, reconnoitring the ground over which the battalion was to advance, and establishing liaison with the flanks. On 6th September, when again in command of the covering troops, he pushed forward his posts under heavy machine gun fire to obtain touch with the flanking troops. Throughout the operations he displayed great coolness and daring, and constantly supplied useful
