War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 5 April 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 11 June 1917, and marched into Sling Camp. Proceeded overseas to France,6 July 1917. Admitted to 20th General Hospital, Etaples, 2 August 1917 (scabies); discharged to Base Depot, 10 August 1917. Joined 1st Bn, Wellington Infantry Regiment, in the field, 29 August 1917. Wounded in action, 19 October 1917 (bomb explosion: concussion), and admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 20 October 1917; transferred same day to No 2 Canadian Casualty Clearing Station; to 14th Stationary Hospital, Boulogne, 22 October 1917; to England, 2 November 1917, and admitted same day to Southwark Military Hospital, Dulwich Green; transferred to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 11 December 1917; discharged on furlough, 4 January 1918, to report to Torquay, 10 January 1918. Classified 'unfit' by NZ Medical Board. Commenced return to New Zealand from Liverpool on board HT 'Willochra', 1 Febryary 1918. |
