Military Medal 'On the 7th June 1917, this Sapper worked for 15 hours under exceptionally heavy shell fire in front of Messines. He showed a fine example to the men with him and by carrying a wounded Australian to shelter undoubtedly saved the man's life. This act in no way interfered with the duties he had to carry out.'
