Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 1st October 1918 during an attack against enemy positions east of Masnieres this man, who is a Company stretcher bearer, did splendid and heroic work evacuating wounded. He worked continuously for 1 day and 1 night without sleep or rest under intense enemy machine gun and artillery fire without the slightest regard for his personal safety. His utter disregard of danger was most marked. The enemy was firing deliberately at our stretcher bearer parties, but the example set by this man working imperturbably influenced others to emulate him and the work of evacuation to continue. He was undoubtedly the means of saving many lives.'
