Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations near Le Quesnoy on the 4th November 1918. When his platoon commander became a
casualty early in the morning, Sergeant Thomson took charge, reorganised his sections, reached his objective, secured touch with his flanks, and consolidated his position. A few hours later he led forward a patrol and reconnoitred the outer ramparts of the town. Here he gained important information and consolidated the ground gained. Throughout the operation he showed excellent qualities of
leadership and a splendid example of courage.'
