'For conspicuous gallantry in command of a company, on 4th November, 1918, during the attack on Le Quesnoy. He made a daring reconnaissance under heavy fire, and so disposed of his platoons that he succeeded in capturing four machine guns and a 77mm gun and forty prisoners, thereby enabling another battalion to pass through and attack the enemy on the flank. Later, on reaching his objective, he made another reconnaissance and established posts safeguarding his flanks.'
