Ordre De Leopold, Chevalier (Belgium) 'Operations: Opposite Polderhoek 27th Nov to 5th Dec. 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. At 1pm on 3rd December 1917, during the attack on the Polderhoek Chateau, when the advance of our troops was held up by the heavy hostile fire, this NCO with a few men overcame one of the enemy's strong points, and advanced to a point between the Chateau and a large pillbox (18): at
this time they were about 100 yards in advance of the rest of the line, although cut off and unassisted, Corporal Tempero consolidated and held to his ground. This NCO showed the greatest personal courage and by his leadership and
determination, was able to beat off three bombing counter attacks. He did not withdraw from his position until he received orders from an officer, and succeeded in getting his men through to the main line without any casualties.'
