Military Medal 'Operations in front of Bapaume on August 29th and 30th 1918. For gallantry and devotion to duty on 29 August 1918. This soldier worked continuously for 36 hours under heavy fire bringing in wounded. Blown up by a shell which killed 8 and wounded 7, although badly shaken, he immediately helped to dress the wounded and carry them into safety in spite of the shell fire. He continued on without rest until all the men were cleared and then went forward and brought in other wounded men lying out. By his coolness he saved the lives of several men and was
a splendid example to the other bearers during the action.'
