During the attack on the Belle Vue Ridge on 12th October, this non-commissioned officer showing the greatest contempt for danger, and under a terrible hail of machine gun fire reconnoitred the whole of the Battalion front and brought back a most reliable report showing exactly the positions held and the estimated strength of garrison.'
