Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 25th August 1918 in front of Biefvillers, Lance Corporal Swan?s Company when close to its objective, was met by heavy machine gun fire. This NCO skillfully worked his two guns rounds the flanks, and forward, and by well directed fire enabled the final rush to be made with success and comparatively few casualties. As soon as the objective had been
captured he rushed his guns forward and inflicted heavy casualties on the retiring enemy. His courage and initiative had an excellent effect on the men.'
