Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the advance on Grevillers on 24 August. He assisted in keeping touch between platoons and took command of one platoon that had lost its Officer. His courage and dash under very heavy rifle and machine gun fire and some shellfire, were a splendid example to all ranks. He later commanded the Company until an Officer was sent up to take over.'
