Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the raid carried out by the 15th North Auckland Company against the enemy on the 31st July this man was runner to the Officer in charge of the raid and rendered splendid service. He took
messages continuously along the whole front and returned with accurate reports of the situation. This was all done under severe machine gun and shell fire and showed him possessed of great courage. He captured one of the enemy after
killing another. He was the last man to return to our trench as he remained out searching any wounded or dead. He was subsequently sent out again to bring in a shot man. His work was of the very highest order. For action at Western outskirts of Warneton.'
