Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the operations near Salesches on the 23rd October 1918, Corporal Stuart was in command of a Lewis gun Section. When his Company was held up, he rushed his gun forward to a commanding position, opened fire and silenced an enemy machine gun, allowing the advance to continue. He was continually pushing ahead and bringing fire to bear on any enemy, thus enabling his Company to advance with the minimum of casualties. Corporal Stuart handled his section with great skill, and inspired his men by the splendid example he set throughout.'
