Military Medal 'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty near St Julien on the 4th October, 1917. On the 4th October, 1917, during an attack by the infantry, the battery was heavily shelled for a considerable period whilst firing in support of the attack, particularly the gun under the command of this NCO He displayed the greatest courage throughout, and by his conduct, set a very fine example to all the men round him.'
Source: London Gazette Date: Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. The battery was subjected to very heavy fire and a bivouac was blown in. He at once went to the spot, extricated a wounded man and got him clear. Twice later the same thing occurred, and he again displayed the greatest courage and self-sacrifice in getting the wounded clear.'
