Military Medal 'Operations British Front in the vicinity of the Foret de Mormal: 5th November 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the operations in the vicinity of the Foret de Mormal on 5th November 1918, Private Stewart was a Lewis gunner. When his Company met with heavy hostile machine gun fire near the final objective Private Stewart took his Lewis gun forward and, by skilful use of cover from ground and trees and with utter disregard for personal danger, put two
enemy guns out of action and forced a number of other guns to be abandoned by their crews. This man, throughout recent operations, has set a splendid example of courage and skill to his section and all others associated with him.'
