Bar to Military Medal 'Operations: British Front near Havrincourt Wood, 4th September 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the above operation, Lance Sergeant Stevenson, in company with an Officer, reconnoitred an approach for a flank attack, when the advance of his Company was held up by open country swept by machine gun fire. He then returned to his platoon and guided it to within rushing distance of an enemy strong point on the flank; took command of two sections and cooperated with his platoon commander in rising the position from to points. By the capture of this position, the whole Company was enabled to Advance and capture the positions on its flank.'
Source: London Gazette Date: Military Medal 'At the assault on Belle Vue Ridge on October 12th this Non commissioned officer was in command of a Lewis gun Section. He led his men forward with much skill and determination under heavy shell and machine gun fire. After his men had all become casualties, he worked the gun himself until the Company was relieved.'
