Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Havrincourt Wood on the 12th September 1918. After his Platoon had suffered heavy casualties, including his Officer, and the advance was held up he reorganised his men and personally led a bombing party down the trench, using in this effort enemy grenades owing to the limited number of our own available. He succeeded in wiping out the machine gun Post which was holding up the Company flank, to protect the flank, and enabled the remainder of his Platoon to consolidate their position. His cheerfulness and contempt for personal safety during the whole operation was an inspiration to all.'
