Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For great gallantry, initiative, and devotion to duty. On 4th November 1918, during the attack on Le Quesnoy, his platoon officer was killed; he immediately assumed command of the platoon, and by good leadership reached his objective and consolidated. His work throughout the day was excellent.'
