Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on Passchendaele Ridge on 12th October 1917. Although his section was practically wiped out, he gathered a number of other men and, without the aid of Officers or Senior N.C.O.s established and held a strong post in our front line. He set a fine example to the men under his command.'
