Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a raid on enemy trenches south of the Serre Road on the 15th May 1918. This NCO was one of a party of seven who the day previously had raided the same position in daylight without artillery support, but finding the enemy were holding the trench in strength were compelled to withdraw after killing and wounding a number of them. He
volunteered on this occasion to act as a guide, although suffering from an injury to his knee caused by a fall during the first raid. In his capacity as a guide he rendered most valuable assistance and after guiding the party to the trench he displayed great gallantry in guarding the left flank.'
