'At Gravenstafel east of Ypres. During the operations on the 4th October, 1917, this officer displayed great courage and devotion to duty. The whole day he worked hard under shell fire and by night time not a wounded man of the Battalion had his wounds unattended to. In addition to men of his own Battalion, large numbers of men of other Battalions passed through his regimental aid post. This Officer's work was exceptional and he set a fine example of self sacrifice.'
