Military Medal 'For gallantry at near St Julien on 12th October, 1917. While acting as No. 1 of his gun, he was repeatedly subjected to heavy enemy shell fire. Notwithstanding this he displayed the greatest disregard for danger, and succeeded in keeping his gun in action over the whole period of the operations. He set a most valuable example to
his men.'
