Croix de Guerre (Belgium) 'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty in the Field during operations north of Hebuterne on 23rd July 1918. This NCO was in charge of a bombing party which was working down Lob Street in order to drive the enemy from his forward positions. He led his section with great dash and his splendid leadership was responsible for completely clearing the sap of the enemy. He established his men and held on to the position under heavy machine gun fire in order to allow the rest of the platoon to take up positions on either flank. He showed great bravery throughout and personally sniped four of the enemy.'
