'At Devil's Wood: These drivers displayed the greatest coolness and courage at a most critical time, under heavy shrapnel fire on the 15th. Their team was hit and got into difficulties in the open; the centre driver was wounded, horses thrown down, and vehicle thrown into a shell hole. The wounded diver was carried clear and horses extricated and got clear. This act, under the circumstances, I consider especially deserving of recognition, as they all displayed the utmost courage, and by their act showed a splendid example to the other drivers.'
