Mentioned in Despatches 'For gallantry and general good work. He led his section with conspicuous skill and courage during the operations at Messines on 7th and 8th June 1917. He
commanded a Platoon during the operations east of Ploegsteert Wood on 13th and 14th June, and consolidated and held his position under very heavy fire. He has always set a very fine example.'
