Military Medal

'For conspicuous courage and devotion to duty on 11th October, 1917, at St Julien. When driving lead in the team taking a gun forward to advanced position they were caught in a 5.9" barrage. The NCO in charge was killed beside him, but he took his team on and supervised the cutting out of the wounded horses. His splendid example went far to the placing of the gun in its required position.'
