Military Medal

'This NCO who had previously proved himself a good soldier excelled himself throughout the day of the attack on Messines Ridge on 7th June 1917, and the night of 8th/9th June. During this night he was in command of his platoon and walked about and around his men under heavy shell fire, encouraging those men who were digging a communication trench beyond Messines. By his gallantry and disregard of danger he kept his men together.'
