Meritorious Service Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the period 25th February 1918 to 16th September 1918, Private Sammons has been attached to Brigade Headquarters for general duties. His work has been of the highest order, his energy is untiring and day and night he appears to work without ceasing. On many occasions the Brigade Headquarters has been under extremely heavy shell fire but on all occasions Private Sammons has carried on his duties with the utmost disregard for danger. He has set a splendid example to all who came in touch with him.'
