Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the field near Crevecouer, during the operations from 29th September to 3rd October 1918. This man acted as a Company runner during this period and displayed throughout exceptional skill and daring. He many times carried messages through heavy shell and machine gun fire, and in particular, on 30th September, when his company occupied advanced posts on the western edge of the Canal de St Quentin. On that date he reconnoitred the Company front and gained touch with all platoons, and many times delivered messages for his Company Commander to platoons, across ground subjected continuously to machine gun and rifle fire, and also back to Battalion H.Q., across an exposed slope swept by machine gun fire. His utter fearlessness and disregard of danger made communication possible.'
