War service: Western Front Embarked Wellington, 29 May 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 27 July 1916, and marched into Sling Camp. Proceeded overseas to France, 12 August 1916; joined Pioneer Bn, in the field, 25 August 1916. Found guilty, 9 April 1917, of when on Active Service absenting himself from parade after being duly warned for duty: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2. Transferred to 4th Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, 12 July 1917, and posted to D Company. On leave to United Kingdom, 10 September 1917; rejoined Bn from leave, 21 September 1917.
