The Nominal Roll gives the date of departure as 1 April 1916; harbour records indicate that the actual date of embarkation was 2 April 1916.

'During the attack on Messines Ridge on 7th June 1917, this man was a stretcher bearer. He did excellent service and showed great courage in the performance of his duties as a stretcher bearer carrying wounded through heavy barrages during the first three days of the attack.'
