Military Medal 'Operations in front of Serre, 27th March to 5th April 1918 and particularly on 5th April 1918. At Beaussart, on 5th April 1918, when the enemy was shelling forward and back areas heavily with high explosive, gas and shrapnel and the Main Dressing
Station of this Unit was under heavy shell fire C.Q.M.S. Roberts showed great coolness and initiative. When the NCO in charge of admissions and evacuation of wounded by cars became a casualty C.Q.M.S. Roberts immediately, on his own
initiative, took over these duties. He organised and led under heavy shell fire two squads of Bearers to a gun team, whose gun had been completely wrecked, bringing in two surviving gunners. His example of fearlessness and gallantry under the trying conditions was an encouragement to all ranks. Between times he indefatigably carried out his regular duties of keeping up supplies of blankets, stretchers, etc.'

throughout was full of resource and energy, and by his disregard of personal danger he set a fine example to those under him.'
