Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack at Bancourt on the 1st September 1918 this non commissioned Officer assumed charge of his sub section when his Sergeant was wounded, and with the greatest coolness brought his guns into action to cover a temporary withdrawal of the Infantry, and inflicted many casualties on the enemy. He personally got four enemy machine guns into action for the Infantry to fire, and being the only man left in his team, patrolled the trench, remedying stoppages so that the Infantry could keep the guns in action. His coolness, courage and initiative helped to save a critical situation.'
