Military Medal 'On 12th September east of Havrincourt Wood during an attack by his Brigade the enemy gas and shell bombardment carried away all forward lines. For seven and a half hours despite the fact that he was gassed, he worked continuously under the heaviest fire maintaining and laying lines and it was largely due to his gallantry and resolution that communication was reestablished at an important period. His
conduct was a splendid example to all who worked with him.'
