Source: London Gazette Date: Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the morning of 1st October 1918, near Crevecoeur when all the section commanders and platoon Sergeant had
become casualties, he took charge of and organised his platoon, and took an effective part in consolidating a forward position under heavy enemy artillery and machine gun fire. He showed an utter disregard of danger in an exposed position, and encouraged his men by work and until he himself became a casualty. He set a splendid example to his comrades.'
