Embarked Wellington, 29 July 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 28 September 1916, and marched in to Sling Camp.

Proceeded overseas to France, 10 October 1916; joined Bn, in the field, 23 October 1916.

Wounded in action, 4 October 1917 (gun shot wound, back); admitted to 1/2 South Midlands Field Ambulance, 5 October 1917, and transferred to 4th Casualty Clearing Station; to No 14 General Hospital, Wimereux, 6 October 1917 (gun shot wound, back and abdomen); transferred to England, and admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 10 October 1917.

Classified unfit by NZ Medical Board, 28 November 1917.

Commenced return to New Zealand from Avonmouth on board HMNZT 'Maheno', 24 December 1917; discharged (no longer physically fit for war service on account of wounds received in action), 2 March 1918.
